The Hyatt Regency Miami is a very impressive looking hotel as you drive up. It’s a large modern looking building with an impressive front entrance. The public areas may have been renovated in the past few years as they are very modern, open and inviting. All the employees I came in contact with were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel seems to be a popular site for business conventions and meetings as most of the larger meeting rooms were occupied during my stay. It’s also fairly close to the cruise ship port which could explain the leisure travelers with really large suitcases. The lobby is large and open with plenty of seating and includes a free WiFi area. The restaurant and bar seemed to be a combined area with plenty of seating. There are daily specials in the bar which also has a limited food menu available all day long. The rear of the hotel in on the intercostal and has a steady stream of impressive looking private boats passing by.
I went to the bar for lunch and was greeted by Cesar Baez, who was the bartender at the time. Cesar was extremely helpful with recommendations, along with his pleasant, friendly manner. After I finished my lunch, I had the pleasure of meeting Madge Williams, the restaurant supervisor. She stopped and asked me about my lunch and my dining experience. Madge didn’t appear to be the typical supervisor, one who walks around giving direction but not doing much else, you’ve seen the type. Madge was cleaning the bar and tables before she stopped to speak to me, and generally helping her staff. She definitely appears to be the type of person you wouldn’t mind working for.
During my stay I only had one complaint. The Internet was painfully slow. I called the front desk three times, and while the people I spoke to were very sympathetic, none could help me solve the problem. They even gave me a free upgrade to the highest speed connection with the same results. I had to use my cell phone as a hot spot in order to get any connectivity.
Overall it was a good experience, one I would recommend to others traveling and staying in Miami. I’ve included some photos of the hotel. Enjoy.
