Who would have thought? This is an amazing hotel! It opened in the fall of 2014 and apparently was well worth the wait. The hotel has two separate buildings connected by both an underground tunnel and connecting outdoor walkways and patios. Also on site are multiple bars and restaurants, a spa, and an ice skating rink with skate rentals. They have a small “beach” with a restaurant and bar which was closed while I was here but would add a lot to the experience during the summer months.
When you walk into the hotel lobby, you are on the 6th floor….. and that’s ground level… no kidding. Read the signs, which are everywhere thankfully, as hotel features can be both above or below the lobby level. The interesting thing is no matter which level you are on, you have a beautiful view of the lake. Go figure.
The guest rooms are massive; and if it had a kitchen it would be an apartment. Now I realize it’s the slow time of the year, but the hotel is very quiet. Sounds are muted and not bothersome at all.
The hotel has one vehicle they use to pick people up from the airport, so you may want to inquire before your arrival as to the availability of the car, or arrange your own transportation. The drive from the airport to the hotel is about 15-20 minutes.
The banquet rooms are massive and the entire property has beautiful decor. The staff are so polite and helpful, you would have thought I was royalty when I walked in. And while I was walking around looking for some nice pictures to take, I apparently looked lost and / or confused, ( my normal look) because every staff member I saw asked me if they could help me. Hmmm, is it really that bad?
The hotel is about six to eight blocks from the capitol building and the “square” where all the restaurants and bars are located. it’s a college town so there are people walking around at all times of the day and evening.
I really can’t say enough positive things about this hotel. It looks great and they make you feel like you are the most important person in residence. I would definitely recommend The Edgewater Hotel. If you have ever considered coming to Madison Wisconsin (work with me here) for a weekend, please put this place on the top of your list. You will not be disappointed.
